Mr Neil Fleming is a renowned figure in the world of energy journalism, serving as the Senior Vice President and Global Head of Editorial at Argus Media. With 38 years of experience, Mr Fleming has played a critical role in shaping the landscape of energy and commodities reporting. His career began with distinguished positions at United Press International, and he has written for the Times of London, the Sunday Times, and the Independent. Mr Fleming’s expertise extends across market design, price benchmarks, and geo-political analysis, with a focus on Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Before joining Argus Media, Mr Fleming held significant roles at S&P Global (Platts), where he was Senior Vice President of Editorial and Information, and at ICIS, where he served as Head of Content and later as Strategic Advisor. He has also consulted for the International Energy Agency, and African downstream energy experts CITAC. His extensive experience in energy markets, coupled with his innovative approach to market reporting, has made him a leading authority in the industry.

Mr Fleming’s contributions to journalism are complemented by his creative endeavors. An accomplished playwright, poet, and screenwriter, Mr Fleming co-founded the UK theatre company Hydrocracker in 2003. His works have been performed in London, New York, and other international venues. In addition to his theatrical achievements, Mr Fleming has made significant contributions to film and television, including his role as a story advisor for the TV series “Red Election” in 2021.

As a leader at Argus Media, Mr Fleming oversees a global team of over 500 reporters across 29 offices. His responsibilities include formulating editorial and market-reporting strategies, developing new content and products, and ensuring that Argus maintains its position as a leader in energy and commodities reporting. His leadership at Platts included overseeing market design processes and chairing the Platts Global Energy Awards for six years.

Mr Fleming’s achievements in journalism have been recognised with numerous awards, including the International Association of Energy Economists’ Award for Excellence in Written Journalism in 1995 and the Kent & Sussex International Poetry Competition in 2005. His poetry was also featured in Carcanet Press’ anthology “New Poetries VII” in 2018. Mr Fleming’s long-term vision and expertise are evident in his role as the architect of award-winning projects such as the CITAC Africa Downstream Database and the ICIS IDDN database.
